4 Ingredients for Successful Mentoring Relationships | Entrepreneur.com

To grow PR firm, he consulted a ‘bug’ guy – not a ‘big’ guy, as we often reach out to guys who we think are ‘big’ and successful. But instead opted for a guy from a totally different line of business, managing cockroach menace!

Silver Fox was a platform used to reach out to the mentor. Useful reminder to look for networking opportunities.

The client was right not to only identify & reach out to a mentor, he felt was appropriate, but also be aware, ‘customer service’ was the key, irrespective of the line of business.  This is something most businesses miss out, primary focus on customer service.

They met every Wednesday thereafter. That is discipline from the client, and basis to a mutually beneficial intervention. Weekly would seem a bit too frequent, but then the client decides, always.

The connection established through the chemistry session is another important element of the relationship. Else it becomes a marriage of convenience and both parties just endure, reluctant to call off. Thus no desired outcome for the client.

The list is crisp and well summarized.
  • Clear expectations should be identified with clarity for the
benefit of the client & process.
  • Mutual Respect and Reciprocity are the takeaways for every
    mentor from the intervention.
  • Shared values & interests also make the process more
    meaningful.
Lastly, this whole discussion makes more sense in a Coaching scenario, not in a mentoring session.

What Makes a Good Mindfulness Coach? | Daniel Goleman

A
few months ago, I did a single (laser) coaching session with a friend.
He specifically was interested in meditation. I shared a
simple technique with him. Couple of months later, he called me one day to share he was practising with discipline and
his deeper experiences. Last week, almost after six+ months, he shared he
was delighted to experience deeper awareness.

I felt truly blessed. I had since then shared same with few of my other coachees and friends, based specifically on their requests, of course. I wrote to each one of them to check out on their experiences. Not surprisingly, most of us were not practising, enough!!!
(that includes me, at least at the level which I want!)

Thought provoking... 'what makes a good mindful coach?'

Can I coach ever be not mindful at all? While coaching & even when not coaching? Being mindful is a state when coaching becomes deeper, powerful and useful for Coachee.

Great to note mindfulness is being taught and is being included in corporate training. But, still by a small percentage of corporate & non-corporate.

Hrithik Roshan Hires a Life Coach?

According to press reports, "Hrithik Roshan has employed the services of a life coach to tide over his recent separation from wife. Hrithik has hired life coach to keep him focused on work and keep his mind off the separation. The coach surrounds Hrithik at most times. His job is to keep Hrithik up-beat."

The profession of a life coach is suddenly getting some extra visibility & PR ?! Perhaps not needed, considering the kind of work a Coach does.

Of course, if the report is true, it will definitely help the actor. Yes, a life coach will go far deeper than just enable the star to overcome the pangs of separation. In fact, had he hired a coach, perhaps the separation would have been prevented. Prevention is surely better than cure!

You don't need to be a Rockstar executive/artist/person to hire a coach. Every star/budding star will benefit immensely from hiring @The Coach. You are already star... have you hired a coach.

Promoters’ role changing, says Ram Charan

- The role of a company’s promoter is starting to include helping in drawing up leadership succession plans and generally evaluating the talent of a CEO

- One cannot generalise [about Indian companies] of course. But it is slowly happening…promoters are making changes at the top level. The average tenure of a CEO now is just 4.6 years, with a great proportion below three years...

...says the management guru, leadership coach.

Often business leaders miss out the need to strike a balance between 'cutting & sharpening the saw'. For succession planning & leadership coaching (not mentoring!) is one of the key roles of a business leader.

In Indian context, we find there are many CEOs of companies, both well-managed & not-so-well-managed companies, holding on to the chair! Every such position should have a maximum tenor to enable new leaders, with fresh perspective to take over. The successor may not be able to fill in the boots of some of their erstwhile predecessors. But the system has to find ways to handle suitability, rather than allowing leaders to hand-on.

Of course, everyone in the corporate, irrespective of the level, should consider himself to be at a leadership level. As such applicable to everyone. Just as we clamour for retirement of our senior cricketers, however great they were...

Is corporate India ready? Are you ready to let go?

Don't get misled by the heading!

For, Coaching goes far beyond getting a mere promotion! Indeed, it has a far greater impact than training and 360 degree feedback.

Coaching practice borrows, from not only sports and psychology, but also management, philosophy, art, science, et al.
